WHITE WARD
White Wardfrom Odessa, Ukraine, make musique noir rooted in raw, depressive blackmetal mixed with dark-jazz and other kinds of music. The band themselvesdescribe their music as deviant. In 2022 they issued their third album FalseLight, a follow-up on their much-acclaimed sophomore album Love ExchangeFailure (2019) and their first Futility Report (2017).
One of themusicians serves in the ongoing war in Ukraine. White Ward’s visit to AColossal Weekend is possible only because he has been granted leave of absence.
With windinstruments, virtuoso post-rock guitars, gothic post-punk, and death metal,White Ward’s songs insist on intensely dystopian affairs and atmospheres.Inspired by the early 20th century Ukrainian writer MykhailoKotsubinsky, they explore government-sanctioned murder, environmentalcatastrophes, urban angst, domestic abuse, and psychic emptiness.
